I am John Webber and as you may have guessed, a chef, well – in a past life. I spent many years working and running in some of the best kitchens in Britain, from Mayfair to Dartmoor on to Berkshire and finishing up in Scotland. Now settled on the family farm on the west coast in my wife’s home village of Appin.

On leaving London for the west country, I realised that the countryside was where I felt most at home. Unusual for a boy from Birmingham working in the west end of London. The west country put me in touch with food on a direct level Buying direct from producers, growing and gathering produce seasonally from the wealth of local foods and producers.

The Michelin Guide had been kind to me on a couple of occasions and I was lucky enough to run some of the best kitchens in Britain. But in the course of giving demonstrations and workshops I discovered that one of the things I enjoyed most was teaching.

Over the years I have taught both chefs and the general public and found I not only had a passion for cooking but teaching as well.
Giving somebody that lightbulb moment or realisation of what they can do and why is one of life greatest pleasures. And that is simply what I hope to accomplish in this blog.

I actually have three passions.

Food and cooking, the pleasure of working with fresh produce and enjoying the results with friends and family. Now with the time to write and enjoy life I want to take you on a culinary journey with us swathed in our lives here on the west coast of Scotland near Oban.

Photographing the countryside. A chef understands the produce they work with and is in tune with the seasons and what they have to offer. This equally applies to photographing the landscape. Ever changing light from day to day and month to month changes to the mood and brings a scene to life. Take the best produce you can find, combine this with some knowledge, skill and a bit of vision and you will produce a dish. Photographers use the same ‘recipe’ to produce their images, understanding and been in harmony with your subject will bring the most success. If you are interested do look up my images at Great British Images.

And my third passion? My wife Caroline.

Enjoy Life !

John.
